Mental Health Services for Youth and Families

Mental health challenges can show up differently at every age. KBBH provides individualized care to help children and teens understand what they’re experiencing, build healthy skills, and feel more supported at home, at school, and in everyday life.

Services Include

Counseling & Therapy

KBBH provides individualized counseling and mental health support for children and teens experiencing emotional, behavioral, social, or developmental challenges. Care begins by understanding each young person’s individual needs and creating a personalized treatment plan to support their well-being.

Depending on their needs, care may include individual or group therapy, mental health evaluations, skills-based support, and collaboration with families and partner agencies. Treatment can help young people work through challenges related to anxiety, trauma, anger, communication, healthy boundaries, mindfulness, and more.

Connecting You to Resources

Finding the right support for your child or family can feel overwhelming. KBBH’s Care Navigation team helps connect families with the services and resources they need while reducing barriers to care.

Care Navigators can help families understand available options, connect with appropriate KBBH services, and provide support throughout the treatment journey.

Peer Support

Sometimes it helps to have support from someone who understands from personal experience. KBBH’s Peer Support Specialists have lived experience with mental health challenges, trauma, addiction, or recovery and use that experience to support others navigating similar challenges.

Peer Support Specialists offer encouragement, understanding, and connection while helping young people and families feel less alone as they move through treatment and recovery.

Substance Use Support for Youth and Families

Substance use can be difficult to navigate, both for young people and the people who care about them. KBBH provides judgment-free support that meets youth where they are, while helping families better understand how to support them.

Services Include

Outpatient Substance Use Disorder Services

KBBH provides specialized substance use treatment for young people who are navigating alcohol, drugs, or other substance use concerns. Care is individualized, recognizing that every young person may be at a different place in understanding their substance use or making changes.

Treatment may include individual counseling, therapeutic groups, recovery planning, and support from Peer Support Specialists and Care Navigators. Groups may be organized around age, shared needs, or gender and often include peer support to help young people feel understood and connected.

KBBH also recognizes that a young person may not be ready for treatment yet. The focus is on keeping communication open, reducing judgment, and helping youth and families find a next step when they’re ready.

School & Community

Young people don’t experience challenges in just one place. KBBH works alongside families, schools, and community partners to bring behavioral health support into the places where children and teens live, learn, and grow.

Services Include

Support for Families Involved with Child Welfare

KBBH works directly with children, teens, and families involved with the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Welfare system. KBBH behavioral health providers are embedded at the DHS Child Welfare Office in Klamath Falls, helping families access care and support as they navigate what can be a difficult and stressful time.

Services may include mental health assessments, counseling, care coordination, and referrals to additional resources. KBBH also works with youth entering foster care to help ensure their mental health and emotional needs are addressed from the beginning.

The goal is to support family stability, reduce trauma, and help parents and caregivers move toward reunification when possible.

In-Home Safety & Reunification Services

KBBH provides short-term, hands-on support for families involved with DHS through In-Home Safety & Reunification Services (ISRS). Rather than requiring families to come into a clinic for all of their support, the team works alongside families in their own homes.

Services focus on building safety, structure, and resilience while helping parents and caregivers develop practical skills such as creating daily routines, household management, and budgeting. Families may also receive education and support related to parenting, trauma, substance use, and other challenges.

The goal is to strengthen families, reduce the risk of future child welfare involvement, and help children remain safely connected to the people who care for them.

In-School Mental Health

KBBH brings behavioral health care directly into local schools, making it easier for students to receive support in a familiar and accessible environment. The School Mental Health program is provided in partnership with Klamath Falls City Schools and Klamath County School District and is part of a statewide initiative supported by the Oregon Health Authority.

Students can receive free therapy, skills training, care coordination, and referrals from KBBH therapists and Qualified Mental Health Associates. Care Navigation is also available to help students and families connect with additional services outside of school when needed.

School-based support can help students navigate anxiety, depression, bullying, family stress, substance use, and other challenges that affect their well-being and ability to succeed. KBBH currently provides School Mental Health services within Klamath Falls City and County school districts, as well as at Klamath Community College.

Comprehensive Care

Some young people need a higher level of care to feel stable and move forward. KBBH provides structured, specialized services designed around each young person’s needs, with support from families, schools, and community partners.

Services Include

Youth Residential

KBBH’s Youth Residential program provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment for youth in the care of DHS who need intensive mental health or behavioral rehabilitation services. Short-term residential care, including crisis respite, is available for youth who need stabilization and support while waiting for a longer-term placement or return home.

Youth receive 24-hour care, individualized treatment plans, therapy, medication support, and opportunities to build emotional, social, and everyday living skills. The goal is to create a supportive environment where young people can stabilize, make progress, and prepare for what comes next.

Support continues after a young person leaves residential care through check-ins and care coordination designed to help with the transition back to family, foster care, or another supportive setting.

Day Treatment

KBBH Day Treatment is a year-round therapeutic school for students in grades 1–12 who need a higher level of mental health support to succeed at school and in everyday life. It offers a structured, supportive alternative to a traditional classroom or residential treatment where students can learn, heal, and build confidence.

Students attend an on-site school led by educators from Klamath Falls City Schools alongside KBBH treatment specialists. Support includes:

  • Individual and group therapy
  • Medication management
  • Social and emotional skill-building
  • Academic support tailored to each student
  • A full campus experience with classrooms, a gym, outdoor play areas, and nutritious meals

The goal is to help students stabilize, build resilience, and successfully transition back to their community school when they’re ready. While that transition often happens within about 12 months, the timeline is based on each student’s individual needs.

Medication Evaluation & Management

Medication may be one part of supporting a child or teen’s mental health. KBBH’s psychiatry team works with young people and their families to provide individualized medication care as part of their overall treatment plan.

Services Include

  • Psychiatric evaluations
  • Medication evaluation and management
  • Ongoing medication monitoring and support
  • In-person appointments
  • Telehealth appointments
  • Designated walk-in hours
